Meet Josh

Josh Borja is an undergraduate student in the BHSc program in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, majoring in Health and Society and concentrating in Health Economics and Policy. He is interested in how social determinants shape health outcomes, particularly among children and marginalized communities. His academic journey has led him to research topics like mental health, youth flourishing, and healthcare access, where he continues to learn and grow through hands-on experience.

Beyond academia, Josh is involved in health promotion and advocacy, serving as President of Humanity Auxilium Students, VP of Public Relations for the Children’s Health Advocates, a facilitator for the Refugee and Immigrant Self-Empowerment Program, and volunteer for various youth health initiatives such as Stop Addicting Adolescents to Vapes and E-cigarettes (SAAVE) and Nutrition & Exercise Learning for Youth (NELY). He is deeply passionate about working with others to promote health equity and meaningful community engagement.

At his core, Josh believes in the power of kindness, service, and collaboration to create positive change. His hope is that by listening, learning, and contributing in small ways, he can help shape an equitable health system that works better for everyone.
